The Green Bay Packers have questions at a number of positions in their lineup, but players who line up over the football on both sides of the line may be the biggest focus area this offseason. Nose tackle needs a long-term solution, and with the Packers all but assuredly releasing Elgton Jenkins, center is right there on the hierarchy of needs.

Thankfully for the Packers, there are a few more players hitting the free agent market who have extensive experience manning the pivot on the offensive line. While Sean Rhyan could still be an internal candidate if the team elects to re-sign him, Lloyd Cushenberry and Wisconsin native Tyler Biadasz are now on the list of available players, and it would not cost the Packers a compensatory draft pick in 2027 to sign either one.

Beyond the local connection, Biadasz is the more impressive name of the two. He made the Pro Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys in 2021, and he will be released with one year left on his 3-year, $30 million contract with the Washington Commanders. He has missed just five games in the last five seasons and will be 28 years old until November, so there could well be value there.

Would the Packers rather bring in a player like that — and one whose hometown is just over an hour from Lambeau Field — rather than bring back Rhyan? Time will tell. But what’s certain is that there are suddenly more center options than expected this offseason.

The biggest question is why? Biadasz has played well in two years with Washington, his contract was hardly unreasonable for a solid starting center ($11 million cap hit, $8.3 million cash), and the release only saves the Commanders about $3M in cap space while they’re $73 million under the projected cap for 2026.

Lloyd Cushenberry got his pink slip from the Titans earlier this week as well. Cushenberry was not playing at the level of Biadasz, but that could make him an interesting budget or stopgap option.
