The No. 14 Jayhawks (21-8, 11-5 in Big 12) struggled out of the gate in this Big 12 Conference matchup. In many ways, they were lucky to only trail by 11 points at halftime, on the way to a 23-point defeat. No. 2 Arizona (27-2, 14-2) weathered a comeback attempt by KU in the second half that saw the Jayhawks put themselves in position to potentially take a lead, before delivering the win for the home crowd in Tucson, Arizona.

Kansas did see freshman Darryn Peterson lead the team with 24 points, but he wasn’t efficient enough on offense to make up for the fact that he didn’t get much help on that end from his teammates. KU also suffered a deficit from the free-throw line, shooting 10-for-11 as a team, while Arizona shot 30-for-34. That kind of disparity on the road is by no means a recipe for success.

Now, Kansas’ campaign is about positioning itself as well as possible for the upcoming Big 12 tournament. Left for the Jayhawks, are a game Tuesday on the road against Arizona State and a game next Saturday at home against Kansas State. KU has yet to face Arizona State this season, but has gone on the road and defeated Kansas State.
