The Florida Panthers made a goalie move as questions grow around the future of veteran netminder Sergei Bobrovsky during the 2025-26 NHL season.

NHL analyst Chris Johnston reported on X that Florida signed goaltender Louis Domingue to a two-way contract for the rest of the season. Domingue is currently playing with the Panthers’ AHL affiliate in Charlotte after starting the season in Russia.

The signing comes as Florida faces growing uncertainty around its roster ahead of the trade deadline on March 6. Another NHL analyst, Pierre LeBrun, reported that the Panthers may listen to offers for pending unrestricted free agents, including Bobrovsky.

“The Panthers lost again last night, and my understanding is they’ve made the decision to be sellers as far as listening on pending UFAs, which most notably include the likes of AJ. Greer and Sergei Bobrovsky,” LeBrun wrote. “Bobrovsky has a 16-team no-trade list. Doesn’t mean he will be dealt for sure, just means Florida is listening.”

The veteran goaltender is playing the final season of a seven-year, $70 million deal and has not signed an extension. He can become an unrestricted free agent after this season, so a trade could be beneficial for Panthers before the deadline.

Still, Bobrovsky controls part of the situation through a 16-team no-trade list in his contract.

Sergei Bobrovsky’s and the Panthers’ struggles in 2025-26 season

The 37-year-old goalie helped Florida win back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2024 and 2025. Despite that success, his numbers this season show some struggles.

Bobrovsky owns a 22-19-1 record in 43 appearances this year. He carries a 3.13 goals-against average and an .873 save percentage, though he still recorded three shutouts.

Team performance has also played a role in the situation. Florida holds a 30-28-3 record and sits eighth in the Atlantic Division with 63 points.

The playoff race in the division remains tight. The top three spots currently belong to the Tampa Bay Lightning (38 wins), Buffalo Sabres (36 wins), and Detroit Red Wings (35 wins).

Florida averages 2.98 goals per game but allows 3.34, one of the weakest defensive teams in the division. Those struggles have pushed the defending champions into a difficult position.

With Domingue added and trade rumors around Bobrovsky, Florida may be preparing for possible changes as the season moves toward its final stretch.
