NFL free agency: 4 possible team fits for Saints corner Alontae Taylor

· Yahoo Sports

Alontae Taylor expects to become one of the NFL's highest-paid cornerbacks next week, and the New Orleans Saints free agent doesn't lack for options. Between the fans he's made and former coaches working around the league, he's earned a strong reputation. But where could he land? Here are four potential landing spots waiting for him on the open market.

Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas was one of the worst teams guarding the slot last year, and even if that isn't Taylor's full-time responsibility, he would still be a big talent upgrade over the guys who were filling that role. It helps his case that the Raiders have so many familiar faces on staff. Taylor's old defensive coordinator Joe Woods was retained by head coach Klint Kubiak, having worked together in 2024, and Kubiak himself saw how disruptive Taylor could be at practice every day. No team has more salary cap space than the Raiders right now ($121.7 million, per Over The Cap) so they have the resources to sign Taylor to a top-dollar contract.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys have been linked to Taylor by a couple of reports, and for good reason. No defense gave up more passing yards (4,276) last year, and they allowed the second-most touchdown passes, too (35). Dallas needs investments after trading Micah Parsons declawed their defense. But there's a coaching connection, too. Taylor defensive coordinator and position coach at Tennessee, Derrick Ansley, was hired to run the Cowboys secondary in January. Few coaches would know his strengths better than the guy who prepared him for the pros.

Chicago Bears

The Bears explored a trade for Taylor back in November but weren't able to reach a deal, and they could still be interested after finishing with the 11th-most passing yards allowed (3,863). Giving up 609 passing yards in two playoff games had to have been frustrating for Chicago, and defensive coordinator Dennis Allen knows Taylor well. The Bears are flush with cap space (about $26.5 million of it) and could make Taylor a competitive offer in free agency.

New York Jets

New York was a middle-of-the-road pass defense, ranking 16th with 3,674 yards allowed, but they led the league in touchdown passes allowed (36) and couldn't intercept a single pass all season. Jets coach Aaron Glenn just missed Taylor in New Orleans (he was already coaching the Detroit Lions when the Saints drafted Taylor) but he'll appreciate the frenetic style of Taylor's game. Breaking up 52 passes and stacking up 21 tackles for loss has to appeal to a Jets defense that didn't disrupt many plays, and with $73.8 million to spend they'll be in on top corners like him.
