Steelers free agency scouting report: QB Geno Smith

· Yahoo Sports

Free agency is just around the corner and the Pittsburgh Steelers still don't have a definitive answer as to who will be their 2026 starting quarterback. But Geno Smith, who will be released by the Las Vegas Raiders at the start of the new league year, could serve as a stop-gap option for Pittsburgh.

Here is a look at our Steelers Wire free agency scouting report for Smith, taking into account his stats, his overall fit with Pittsburgh, and what his contract amount could look like.

Fit with Steelers offense

Some fans may be quick to write off Smith given his struggles with the Raiders last season, but let's be real — the entire offense was a train wreck. Reuniting Smith with DK Metcalf and giving him a far better offensive line could be exactly what he needs for a bounce-back year in 2026. At worst, he'd serve as a solid stop-gap or backup quarterback without the Steelers being forced to pay a premium.

Contract prediction

Considering Smith's 2025 play concerns, we at Steelers Wire project the 35-year-old quarterback to sign a one-year prove-it deal worth around $10 million.
