Victor Font ‘convinced’ he can secure Barcelona a buy option on Erling Haaland

Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font has spoken out on speculation that he’s trying to secure a preferential purchase option on Erling Haaland.

It’s been reported that members of Font’s team met with Manchester City this week while the club were in Madrid for their Champions League tie with Real.
Font has been asked about the talk about Haaland and thinks there is a chance he could be signed even though he has committed his long-term future to the Cityzens.
“Haaland is one of the best centre-forwards in the world,” he told Què T’hi Jugues. “It is not possible to sign him in the short term because he renewed last year.
“But I am personally convinced that these 10-year contracts rarely end up being fulfilled. Everything is possible and we have to be prepared so that a player of this talent, who has said that he likes Spain and declared last year that he loves the Camp Nou, can make a move.
“We want to create a movement that protects us and gives us these options. We are working on it and I am convinced that it can happen.”
Font went on to say that his team had been talking to City, adding: “We’re talking and I’m confident we’ll finalize it. They have no interest in selling Haaland; it’s a strategic move. We hope to announce it as soon as we can close the deal. I don’t know if it will be possible before Sunday.
“We have not spoken with Haaland because it is a club issue, but you have to know that Carles Planchart, whom Erling Haaland considers as if he were a second father, has a very close relationship with him. They love each other very much and appreciate each other. We must not deceive people by saying that next year he will play for Barça.”
