Make that filet mignon!

Automotive worker Delroy Shand, 60, of Brampton, says he “needs a good steak” and not retirement after winning $1 million.

Visit hilogame.news for more information.

Shand matched all seven Encore numbers in exact order in the Feb. 4 LOTTO 6/49 draw for the big win.

He says he’s been playing the lottery since immigrating to Canada in 1990.

“I always say yes to Encore, and this time it made me $1 million richer!” he told OLG.

While picking up his cheque, Shand said his family was thrilled to hear about the windfall and he may purchase a new home.

“We’ve kept it quiet,” he shared before admitting, “It feels fantastic! Today is a touching day for me.”

Shand added, “I don’t want to quit work. I love my job. I don’t want to spend my win on anything lavish either. I just want to focus on my family and my retirement. And I think I need a good steak!”

The winning ticket was bought at Petro-Canada on Eglington Ave. W. in Etobicoke.

BALLOONS GALORE

Brantford’s Michael (Mike) Walsh, 65, really knows how to celebrate his $100,000 win after matching the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the Feb. 3 Lotto Max draw.

The kitchen design consultant has been playing the lottery with OLG for about 40 years always adding Encore to his tickets so when he took a work break and checked the OLP app he was pleasantly surprised.

“When the prize amount popped up on the screen, my heart skipped a beat,” he told OLG. “I had to do a double take because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! My hands were shaking and I kept blinking at the screen. I felt a rush of adrenaline wash over me. I was at work, so I had to hold it together and act normal, even though my mind was racing nonstop. Throughout every conversation and task, I had to pretend I wasn’t bursting with excitement!”

Walsh shared the news that night with his wife.

“I got home from work, set two glasses of wine on the counter, and waited for her to get home. When she walked in, she looked at me and asked, ‘Why the glasses of wine? What are we celebrating?’ That’s when I told her I won the lottery. The look on her face was priceless — just pure shock, joy, and disbelief. She was over the moon, and her reaction made my heart swell. Sharing that moment with the woman of my dreams by my side made it feel complete,” he said.

Later that week, the father of two and grandfather of five revealed the surprise to his children at a family dinner.

“We bought big number balloons that spelled out ‘$100,000,’” he told OLG.  “At dinner, we had each of our grandchildren hold a balloon and walk into the dining room. Our kids looked confused.  One of them asked, ‘What are these numbers for, Dad? Did you win the lottery or something?’ I calmly said, ‘Yes,’ and the room went silent for a split second. Then came the wide eyes and hands over mouths. They couldn’t believe it! It was such a beautiful moment full of laughter, hugs, and celebration. Being able to experience that with my wife, kids, and grandkids was something I’ll never forget. It wasn’t just about winning — it was about sharing the happiness with the people I love most.”

Walsh plans to save for retirement, invest for the future, and spruce up his ’65 Mustang.

The winning ticket was bought at Jamie’s Variety on Dunsdon St. in Brantford.

BRUINS FAN

Retired taxi driver Marcel Leclaire, 73, of Sudbury, is $88,888 richer after winning a top prize with Instant Lunar 8s.

Leclaire says he chose the ticket as he saw the number 88 come up and he’s a fan of Boston Bruins hockey player David Pastrnak.

“I’m a fan of David Pastrnak and his jersey number is 88. I saw the number 88 on this ticket, so I decided to pick one up,” Leclaire told the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

Leclaire has been playing the lottery with OLG for over 40 years and is no stranger to winning big.

In 2017, he won $1 million with Encore and in 2025, he celebrated a $3 million windfall with Instant Platinum.

“Even though it was my third big win, the feeling was just as intense as the first,” he told OLG. “I shared the news with my brother, and he was so happy for me. It’s great, and I feel really fortunate.”

Leclaire looks forward to buying a new home and filling it with new furniture and also plans to save a portion of his winnings for the future.

The winning ticket was bought at Donovan Variety on Kathleen St. in Sudbury.

A COOL $44-M

There’s one lucky Ontario lottery winner out there.

A stunning $44-million Gold Ball Jackpot from the March 11 Lotto 6/49 draw was won on a ticket purchased on OLG.ca.

Because the ticket was bought online, the winner has already received an email letting them know they’ve won the $44-million prize.

OLG says: “Congratulations to the winner of this life-changing jackpot! We look forward to meeting Ontario’s next multimillionaire when they come forward.”
