The word has been the Jets still want to add a second veteran quarterback to the roster. One potential option is off the board, with Carson Wentz re-signing with the Minnesota Vikings.
Another option who has been discussed is Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Tanner McKee. Philadelphia drafted McKee in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft. New Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich has ties to both the Eagles and Stanford, the quarterback's alma mater.
A recent trade may have made McKee more accessible to the Jets. The Eagles acquired veteran quarterback Andy Dalton in a trade with the Carolina Panthers in a late-round pick swap. That likely makes Dalton the backup quarterback to Jalen Hurts. Are the Eagles really going to carry all three quarterbacks?
Brooks Kubena, the Eagles' beat writer for The Athletic, is reporting that Dalton's acquisition doesn't immediately mean McKee is available for trade.
It's undeniable that Dalton's arrival gives the Eagles flexibility to field offers for McKee though. If the Jets are in fact interested, perhaps Philadelphia's latest trade creates a window for general manager Darren Mougey to negotiate.
Can also confirm Eagles are trading for QB Andy Dalton with the Panthers in exchange for a 2027 seventh-round pick, per source (@AdamSchefter on it).
