The Los Angeles Angels' batting lineup for the season ahead has the potential to be just a little weird.

It's not that it shapes up to be awful, but it's a bizarre mix of eras.

Fangraphs Roster Resource page put together this projection for the 2026 Angels lineup:

  1. Zach Neto SS
  2. Mike Trout CF
  3. Nolan Schanuel 1B
  4. Yoan Moncada 3B
  5. Jorge Soler DH
  6. Jo Adell RF
  7. Josh Lowe LF
  8. Logan O'Hoppe C
  9. Adam Frazier 2B

That's a lot of hitters who have, at one point or another, been great.

Now, though, some of them are well past their primes.

That starts with Trout, of course, who was once the best player in baseball but has battled injuries. He does seem healthy right now, at least.

Moncada and Adell both used to be the No. 1 prospect in the sport. Adell is still in his prime, while Moncada is likely past his.

Soler had some of baseball's best power, once upon a time, but he's now 34.

On the other hand, Neto, Schanel, Lowe and O'Hoppe are closer to their peaks still.

Frazier, or whoever ends up starting at second base, will likely be another past their prime option.

The Angels also have Travis d'Arnaud and Jeimer Candelario as bench candidates, two players who used to be better than they are now.

There's only so much a team can do, but clearly the Angels are an odd mix of two different eras of ballplayers trying to make it work at the same time.
