Texas State men's basketball forward DJ Hall announced Tuesday his intention to return for his sophomore season. The Sun Belt freshman of the year broke the school record for scoring by a freshman, averaging 15.7 points as well as 7.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

"This isn't about breaking records or making history," Hall said in an Instagram video. "It's about building a long-lasting culture with this program for the fans and for this university."

Bobcats head coach Terrence Johnson recruited Hall early, giving him his first college offer during his sophomore year at Plano East High School. The forward eventually became the highest-rated recruit in Texas State history, just above fellow freshman post Robert Fields.

Texas State is preparing for its Pac-12 debut. The conference will host powerhouse men's programs such as Gonzaga, San Diego State, Utah State and Colorado State, and Johnson has been frank about the challenges the Bobcats will face.

"This is one of the largest leaps in modern-day realignment," Johnson said.

Although Texas State still needs to replace departing seniors Mark Drone, Kyndall Davis and Jalen Bolden, nothing was more important than retaining Hall, the centerpiece whom the Bobcats will build around in their new conference. If Fields and guard Kaden Gumbs also stay, Texas State will have continuity for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
