Todd McLellanIn successive losses, the Detroit Red Wings have seen goals wiped off the scoreboard following video reviews.
During Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators, an Alex DeBrincat power-play goal was called back because Detroit forward Patrick Kane put himself offside during his entry into the Ottawa zone.
Saturday, as the Wings lost 4-2 to the Boston Bruins, a replay determined that a James van Riemsdyk shot entered the Boston net about one-10th of a second after time had expired at the end of the first period.
Both goals would’ve given the Red Wings a 1-0 lead.
Naturally, this has led to some discontent among the Detroit faithful.
Starting to think that the NHL offside rule is inconsistent on offense.

Why does the blue line count as the zone when keeping the puck in, but a hard line you have to fully cross on entry?
A small tweak would have helped the #LGRW last night.

There’s no debate in the mind of Red Wings coach Todd McLellan. His verdict? The NHL got both calls right.
“As far as the goals go, you know, there’s rules in play for certain reasons,” McLellan said. “We ran out of time the other night against Boston. We were clearly offside on the entry.
“So if the linesman picked that up and made the call, we wouldn’t even be talking about the goal.
“They didn’t count. That’s why the rules are there. So I don’t think it can affect you a lot. You gotta move on.”

Tuesday, Ottawa scored on its own power play a few minutes after Detroit’s disallowed power-play goal. McLellan wasn’t about to leave his team an opening for an excuse about the video review draining momentum from the Red Wings.
Red Wings Didn’t Lose Any Momentum
“When they got their power play goal, you could feel it a little bit, the tension,” McLellan said. “We got to get over that. There’s going to be bad things that happen to our team, and we got to recover.
“We’ve shown the ability to do that throughout the year. But now in crunch time, can we maintain that resilience? It’s getting tested, and it’s going to keep getting tested.”
