Sixers' Nick Nurse lays out goals for the final seven games of season

· Yahoo Sports

WASHINGTON -- The Philadelphia 76ers have seven games remaining on the 2025-26 season as they look to continue their push into the top 6 in the East to guarantee themselves a playoff spot. The Sixers are only a game back of the Toronto Raptors for the sixth and final guaranteed spot in the East and Philadelphia owns the tiebreaker due to better division record.

With that being said, while the Sixers obviously want to win games over these final seven, coach Nick Nurse is looking for more technical things over the final stretch of the season as he looks to get everybody on the same page before the postseason.

That means making sure Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George get their looks within the offensive ecosystem. Nurse wants to get those three their shots, of course, but he wants it done within the flow of the offense rather than forcing anything.

"I just wanna try to use what we have the best we can, right?" Nurse said. "I’m not even sure what that means other than I think that there’s certainly Joel’s gonna be a focal point. Certainly Tyrese is. Paul, where can we use him the best? Where can he have his runs in games? And there’s others, too."

In terms of the "others", the Sixers do need to make sure guys like VJ Edgecombe, Kelly Oubre Jr., and Quentin Grimes get their shots. That has to be the focus over this final stretch of games as the Sixers look to find their balance within the offensive system. Of course, the stars need to get their shots, but they can't forget the others as well. That is what Nurse wants to nail down by the end of the season.

"We gotta make sure VJ—he’s shown us he can do it," Nurse added. "Q can have some things. Kelly. I just wanna make sure that we try to figure out on what night who’s playing well, what matchups are better, or who’s whatever, and then we can try to find it, but I think other times it’s more of a collective. Can the ball go where it should go, right? Can we make the right reads and get it to where it should go depending on what schemes we’re seeing and what matchups we have."

The Sixers will take on the lowly Washington Wizards on Wednesday before returning home for a tough back-to-back with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday and the Detroit Pistons on Saturday.
