Fatal injuries following collision

According to reports, La Grange suffered extensive injuries in the crash, including the amputation of one of his legs, fractures in both arms and significant liver damage.

On Tuesday morning, a local cycling safety advocate had earlier described his condition as critical following emergency medical treatment.

Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Community reaction

Democratic Alliance MP and chairperson of Parliament’s police portfolio committee, Ian Cameron, confirmed the heartbreaking development in a social media post.

“The cyclist that was critically injured by this reckless taxi driver yesterday has just passed away… Absolutely heartbreaking,” the post read.

The Stay Wider of the Rider organisation also confirmed the death and extended condolences.

“We are devastated by the news that Landon La Grange has passed away of injuries sustained in the crash along Victoria Road yesterday (Monday). Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends and the cycling community,” the organisation said in a statement.

Crash circumstances under scrutiny

Witnesses and early reports suggest the minibus taxi driver was allegedly attempting to overtake multiple vehicles around a corner when the vehicle collided with oncoming cyclists.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The incident has renewed calls from road safety advocates for greater awareness and caution from motorists sharing the road with cyclists.
