Oregon lands commitment from Howard DL Derrick Brown Jr.

After losing a litany of their reserves along the defensive line via the transfer portal, the Oregon Ducks have slowly built that position back up with the use of the portal themselves.

On Wednesday, they received word of another addition, as former Howard Bison defensive lineman Derrick Brown Jr. has committed to Oregon, per his agency The Business of Athletes.

Brown spent the first four years of his college career with the Bison, redshirting in 2022 and competing in just two games the next season. He had a bigger impact as a redshirt sophomore in 2024, appearing in 10 games and recording 33 tackles, a sack and three quarterback hurries.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pounder had another solid campaign last season, totaling 23 tackles and two sacks.

Brown is the fourth defensive lineman to commit to the Ducks during the 2026 portal cycle, joining edge rusher Bleu Dantzler (Oregon State), D'Antre Robinson (North Carolina) and Jerome Simmons (Louisiana-Monroe).

With his size and proven ability to contribute in a rotation, Brown is a valuable depth piece for an Oregon defensive line that is returning all four starters in 2026.

As a redshirt junior last season, Brown will have one season of eligibility remaining with the Ducks.
