Chelsea journalist explains whether club will have to sell their top players this summer

A top Chelsea correspondent, Kieran Gill of The Daily Mail, has been explaining whether Chelsea need to sell their top players.

A lot has been said about this lately, with many different claims and opinions made suggesting that Chelsea may have to look at selling some of their big names for various reasons. One of the reasons is claims that they are a ‘selling club’ and only really in it for profits. Other claims made is that they need to sell players to make sure they stay complicit and within financial rules going forward.

Yesterday there was a report out suggesting that Chelsea have recorded a loss of £342m in one season, breaking English records.

This came after a financial expert made claims earlier this week suggesting that Chelsea will need to make player sales due to already breaching UEFA’s financial rules.

Through journalist Gill, Chelsea have put their side of this story out there now.

Gill writes in The Daily Mail yesterday:

‘Mail Sport has been assured Chelsea are under no financial pressure to sell key starts such as Palmer or Caicedo and that the reported loss does not reflect their true health, saying it is the result of non-cash accounting adjustments as required by UEFA regulations and tied to the acquisition of the club.’

Time will tell

Chelsea fans will be very sceptical and cautious over all of this, but some may find that response from Chelsea very encouraging too.

Time will tell as to whether they stick by this or whether they do end up getting tempted to sell some top players if big offers do arrive.
