Across three rounds, Rosas scored with 16 takedowns as he maintained control on the ground with Font just constantly trying to find an escape. While he didn’t add much punishment with his grappling attack, Rosas showed he was that much better in those exchanges with Font just stuck desperately attempting to get back to his feet.
When it was over, the judges all scored the fight 30-27 with Rosas getting the unanimous decision victory.
“I was planning to get the knockout but I saw it was too easy to get the takedown,” Rosas said after his latest win. “I’m not satisfied, I wanted the finish … he did a hell of job surviving.
“I’m going to have a number next to my name. Anybody in the top 10, I’m going for the belt. If there’s anybody that can stop me in here, I’m not ready for the belt.”
Font got the action started with a slick lead jab but Rosas countered with his grappling as he dragged the fight to the canvas. Rosas stayed on the attack with Font battling to get back to his feet without giving up a bad position.
As the second round got started, Rosas grabbed another single leg takedown and Font reversed momentarily but then lost control before ending up on the bottom again. Rosas stayed strong on top, putting pressure down on Font but he wasn’t advancing much to do any real damage.
Font continued to scramble but every time he found an opening to break free, Rosas grabbed him and put him back on the ground again. While Rosas wasn’t mounting much offense, he was maintaining control and Font couldn’t do much to stop him.
Likely down on the scorecards, Font had to start taking more chances but pressing forward didn’t give him any real results as Rosas countered with another takedown. This time, Rosas wrapped up the legs as he tried to work his way up the body but Font managed to turn and stand up again.
A split second later, Rosas tossed Font back to the ground again for his 10th takedown in the fight.
While it wasn’t the most exciting fight, Rosas just continued to ragdoll Font on the ground and it was rinse, wash and repeat until the final horn sounded.
Now 6-1 in his UFC career, Rosas hopes to take a step up the bantamweight rankings with his next appearance after taking out Font on Saturday.
