Jaylen Brown has been ruled out of the Boston Celtics’ game against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, March 27. He is dealing with Achilles Tendinitis in his left leg. Friday’s game will be the eighth that Brown has missed this season, which, considering the heavy load he carried due to Jayson Tatum’s absence for the majority of the season, is impressive.

During his pregame news conference, head coach Joe Mazzulla gave an update on Brown’s injury, noting that the MVP candidate is listed as day-to-day by the team's medical staff.

“(He’s) day-to-day,” Mazzulla said. “He was in today for treatment. He’s day-to-day.”

Brown has pieced together a career year for the Celtics. In 65 appearances, he’s averaging 28.6 points, 7 rebounds and 5.2 assists, shooting 47.7% from the field and 34.2% from deep. Furthermore, he’s getting to the line at a career-high rate of 7.5 times per game, and shooting a career-best 80.2% from the charity stripe.

Without Brown in the rotation, Tatum will be tasked with spearheading Boston’s offense as it looks to overcome a Hawks team that has won nine of its last 10 games and sits fifth in the Eastern Conference. Fortunately for the Celtics, both Derrick White and Neemias Queta have been cleared to play after previously being listed as questionable heading into Friday.

Nikola Vucevic is the only other member of Boston’s roster who has been ruled out for the matchup against Atlanta.

Following the New York Knicks' loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday, the Celtics have a 1.5-game cushion in the second seed. Nevertheless, they will likely look to increase that gap with a win over Atlanta on Friday. After all, the season is winding down, and home-court advantage is always worth chasing at this stage.
