An Arizona woman was sentenced to more than 50 years behind bars after she admitted to the sexually assaults of a toddler and a service dog.

Kelly Rae Smith, 45, pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault against a child, three counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a child and one count of bestiality, Arizona court records indicate.

Smith was handed the 52-year sentence on April 1, the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office said.

What did investigators find?

It was in April 2024 when the Prescott Valley Police Department received a tip that accused Smith of making comments online about molesting children she had babysat, AZFamily.com reported.

The tipster also reported a video of Smith allegedly taking part in sex acts with a dog.

Investigators, according to prosecutors, also found videos of Smith sexually assaulting a toddler and performing sex acts with a service dog. Child pornography and internet chats discussing fantasies involving kids were also found during the probe, police said.

Smith was arrested in May 2025 and later pleaded guilty to child sex crimes and bestiality charges as part of her plea agreement.

When will Smith get out of jail?

Smith was ordered to serve every day of her prison sentence without the possibility of early release, though she did receive credit for 10 months of time served.

She will be eligible for release in 2077 and would be placed on a lifetime sex offender probation, according to the outlet.

“Crimes such as these are shocking and will never be tolerated in Yavapai County. People who choose to sexually abuse children or animals are incredibly dangerous and cannot be reformed,” prosecutor Dennis McGrane said, per AZFamily.com.

“I hope this case motivates the Arizona Legislature to allow juries to impose the death penalty in cases where an adult sexually assaults a child. Doing so would allow appropriate punishment for anyone who chooses to rape a child and will deter others from committing these heinous crimes.”
